Polygon Art Style With a Twist
The graphic style in Delving On is a hybrid between the oversimplified polygon style and a more detailed approach. The idea is that polygons, not materials, are used to convey detail. The style is much faster to produce than hyper realistic graphics, allowing for efficient development times of large environments. Everything shown is work in progress running in Unreal Engine.

The style is an attempt to "declutter" the screen but retain high prop density when necessary. In the ever present trend for more power in consoles and computers, graphics evolved to the point, at least for some of us, that there was too much clutter. In many games dirt, rubble, garbage, and grime pile on top of one another for little or no reason, in some cases making it hard to see integral gameplay elements.
Inspiration for the style in Delvin On dates back to early 8 bit and computer games where there was simplicity yet good variation in graphics from level to level.
Materials can be quickly adjusted on the tile sets to create environments that invoke a different feel; for example, imperial red and gold give way to majestic blue and silver.
